Allowable drugs under Schedule 4 (7)
Drugs an Ontario pharmacist may prescribe for Ringworm (tinea corporis) under O. Reg. 256/24, Schedule 4. Choice still depends on the assessment, contraindications, allergies, and product availability — this is the eligible list, not a recommendation.
- Ciclopirox
- Clotrimazole
- Ketoconazole
- Miconazole
- Terbinafine
- Tolnaftate
- Undecylenic acid
Symptoms this assessment screens
- Itchy, ring-shaped patch with a raised scaly border
- Central clearing within the patch
- One or a few patches on the body
- Slowly enlarging patch
- Exposure to an infected person, pet, locker room, or shared towels
Red flags — any positive means refer
- Scalp involvement or hair loss
- Nail involvement
- Numerous or widespread lesions
- Immunocompromised
- No improvement after 2 weeks of OTC antifungal
- Rapidly spreading rash or severe inflammation
- Signs of secondary bacterial infection (pus, warmth, swelling, fever)
- Beard, groin, or facial involvement
- Atypical rash or uncertain diagnosis
